    • Restorative-driven or Surgical-driven ?
    • Bone-level or Tissue-level ?
    • Static Guide or Dynamic Navigation?

    Dr. Christopher Moule

    PROFILE

Chris Moule is a specialist prosthodontist operating a referral-based practice in Sydney’s CBD. He has extensive experience in restorative and reconstructive dentistry including the restoration of worn teeth and the replacement of missing teeth. His clinical practice focuses on the provision of adhesive ceramics, crowns, bridges and dental implants using fixed or removable prostheses. The diagnosis and management of temporomandibular disorders and occlusal issues forms a significant part of his clinical role. Chris enjoys teaching these skills to students and dentists in continuing education programs.

    ABSTRACT

Conservative indirect dentistry used to be a paradox. That was until we refined our ability to bond materials to teeth. Our aim is to reduce teeth less and produce stronger restorations that look like teeth. Maybe we shouldn’t call it cementation anymore? Cementation implies filling a space between materials with something inert and using the shape of the preparation and prosthesis to keep a new tooth in place. What we are aiming for is adhesion. Advances in adhesive dentistry have revolutionised our ability to restore teeth. We can use better materials in thinner sections with less tooth preparation. The fundamental principle is making adhesion easy and predictable.

In the era of modern dentistry, we are seeing ageing patients retaining a heavily restored dentition for longer. Bruxism is a common outcome due to the ever-increasing stresses of a fast-paced life. These and many other factors result in cracks forming within teeth.

This one-day multidisciplinary lecture will discuss the diagnosis and management of this often-complex clinical situation as well as outcomes that can be expected.

    Learning objectives:

    • Understand Ceramic Materials
Explore the properties, strengths, and limitations of various ceramic systems. Learn how to select the appropriate material based on clinical indication, aesthetics, and functional demands.
    • Master Cementation Protocols
Differentiate between adhesive and conventional cementation techniques. Understand which cements are suitable for specific materials and indications, and how to optimise long-term outcomes.
    • Refine Tooth Preparation Techniques
Learn how to design conservative preparations that maximise micromechanical retention and preserve tooth structure. Understand the principles of surface conditioning for optimal bonding.
    • Simplify Clinical Workflows
Discover strategies to streamline indirect restorative procedures without compromising quality. This includes:
      • Choosing between adhesive vs. conventional cementation
      • Applying minimally invasive preparation designs
      • Selecting materials for crowns, bridges, and onlays
      • Mastering digital scanning and impression techniques for accuracy and efficiency
