Dr. Steven Liu received his dental degree (DDS) from Kaohsiung Medical University in 1993. After graduation, he earned his DMD from University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Liu pursued two post-doctoral certificates in Periodontics, Periodontal Prosthetics and Fixed Prosthodontics, as well as Implant Surgical and Prosthetic training.
He was an assistant professor/clinical educator of Restorative Dentistry in the department of Preventive and Restorative Sciences and the director of the Implant Dentistry Course at University of Pennsylvania and the Chair of instrument committee.
Now, he is the Course Director of Aesthetic Restoration and Implant Dentistry in the academic department at the University of Pennsylvania. He received multiple times of Joseph L.T. Appleton Award (Dental Faculty Teaching Excellence Awards) at University of Pennsylvania.
He is also the founder of Main Line Dental Implant Center and the founder of Dr. Morton Amsterdam Museum. He became Dr. Morton Amsterdam’s curator/caretaker on 11/16/2014.
He published “Liu Classification” in 2002; Connective Tissue Graft: A Classification for Incision Design from the Palatal Site and Clinical Case Reports.
He also invented and published “Modified Ovate Pontic” in 2004; Use of a Modified Ovate Pontic in Areas of Ridge Defects: A Report of Two Case.
His papers have been published in Compendium of Continuing Education in Dentistry, The International Journal of Periodontics & Restorative Dentistry, Quintessence International, Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry. He is now considered a frequently requested speaker on the local and international scenes.
Dr. Liu’s clinical research activities focus on periodontal prosthesis concepts and implant dentistry, including aesthetic and anatomy concerns for implant surgery and prosthesis., also Zero bone loss in implant dentistry (3-20 years follow up).
He is a member of the American Dental Association, Pennsylvania Dental Association, American Academy of Periodontology and the Academy of Osseointegration.
